Ghana’s Construction Industry Set for 5.9% Growth in 2025 Amidst Infrastructure Boom
Ghana’s construction sector is poised for a significant rebound, with projections indicating a 5.9% growth in real terms for 2025. This resurgence is attributed to increased public-private investments in transport, mining, and energy infrastructure, coupled with a notable rise in export activities.
The Ghana Statistical Services (GSS) reported a 9% increase in the construction industry’s value-add during the first nine months of 2024, reversing a 9.9% decline observed in 2023. This positive trend aligns with a 53.2% surge in export activities in the same period, following a 29.3% growth in 2023.
Key projects fueling this growth include the construction of Ghana’s first lithium mine by Atlantic Lithium Limited and the development of West Africa’s inaugural integrated downstream petroleum hub in Nawule, Jomoro. The latter, a $60 billion initiative, is expected to enhance Ghana’s energy capacity and economic stability.
Additionally, the World Bank’s approval of a GHS 2.4 billion ($150 million) investment in January 2025 aims to bolster Ghana’s energy sector, ensuring reliable electricity supply for households and industries nationwide.
Looking ahead, the construction industry is projected to maintain an average annual growth rate of 5.2% from 2026 to 2029, supported by continued investments in the industrial and energy sectors. This sustained growth underscores Ghana’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic resilience.
